Biography:

Nilgün Sakız Çakmak graduated from the Department of Ceramics and Glass at Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts, in 1990. During her education, she began working on busts and large-scale spatial sculptures at the studio of Prof. Dr. Tankut Öktem. In 1994, she received her pedagogical formation at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Mimar Sinan University. Between 1995 and 1996, she studied English at the American Language and Arts School. From 1996 to 1997, she worked as a product designer and department manager at Maksan Ceramic Factory. In 1998, she focused on fused glass products and sculpture design at the company Polimer. In 2005, she completed her master's degree with a thesis in the Plastic Arts Department of the Institute of Social Sciences at Yeditepe University.

Since 2003, she has been teaching Sculpture in the Department of Fine Arts at Boğaziçi University. In her courses, she conducts sculpture and installation projects using various techniques and materials. She has participated in the Boğaziçi University stand at the TÜYAP Artist Fair and takes part in departmental activities and conferences.

For her sculpture work, she uses high-quality clay and various other materials, while her paintings reflect a vivid use of color in contrast to the minimalism of her sculptures.

She has participated in numerous group exhibitions with both her painting and sculpture works.
