Biography:
Born in 1956 in Trabzon, Sakine Çil graduated from "The State Academy of the Fine Arts, High Decorative Arts Department, Ceramics Department" in 1980. In 1995, she received her proficiency in art from Marmara University Institute of Social Sciences Ceramics Department with her work titled "20th Century Ceramic Art in Painting and Personal Application". In addition to three solo exhibitions, she has participated in group exhibitions since 1986. She executed her project “He is an Istanbulite” in the “Positioning” section of the 9th International Istanbul Biennial. Alongside the 10th International Istanbul Biennial, she executed her project titled “Restoration of Honor” about the Istanbul Manifaturacılar Bazaar. “He/She is an Istanbulite ” project was accepted as the 17th Portable Art project within the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Visual Arts Projects. In 2011, she participated as an invited artist in the 5th International Eskişehir Terracotta Symposium. In 2016, her video work took part in the 3rd Istanbul Design Biennial in the project titled “Are We Human?”. Sakine Çil, who is a member of the International Plastic Arts Association and the Turkish Ceramic Society, has written various articles and given lectures on ceramic and has been teaching ceramics at Boğaziçi University Fine Arts Department since 1985.
